Auditions for our Autumn production
Auditions are on Wednesday 17th July at 19:45 – hope to see you there!
‘HOME’ by David Storey
Directed by Phil Rainforth
AUDITION DATE: WEDNESDAY 17 JULY at 7.45 pm
PERFORMANCE DATES: 24/25/26 OCTOBER 2024
Synopsis:
Five apparently unrelated characters meet in a seemingly insignificant garden.
The autumn sun is overhead, and everybody waits for rain. What they discuss is superficially anything that passes the time. But what is portrayed is the very essence of England, Englishness, class, unfulfilled ambition, loves lost, and homes that no longer exist. A timeless play which is passionate, tragic and also shows the darkly funny study of human minds in a mental state, with perhaps a reflection of a once great nation coming to terms with its new place in the world.
The audience will come to their own conclusions ….
Characters:
Harry … (45 – 65) well spoken, dapper, benign, detached.
Jack … (45 – 65) again, well spoken and dapper, opinionated, slightly more of a dandy.
* Both Harry and Jack have a sense of benign ‘otherworldliness’ *
Marjorie … (40 – 60) London accent, ordinary looking, cynical towards life and events.
Kathleen … (40 – 60) London accent , ordinary, neat, flirtatious.
Alfred …. (25 – 50) Not small. He has an alarming presence, with his silence and aggressive stare.
As they all interact, we come to realise that their delusions and pretensions are similar to those of people living in a ‘supposedly normal’ society.
Please contact Phil if you would like more details, if you would like to audition but cannot make the date or if you would like to read the script.
We very much hope to see you at the auditions on Wednesday 17th!
