PRIDE, PREJUDICE AND OTHER USEFUL QUALITIES

CASTING MEETING: WEDNESDAY 2 APRIL at 7.30 pm
PERFORMANCE DATES: THURSDAY/FRIDAY/SATURDAY 17/18/19 JULY 2025
Following our very successful play reading of this play and subsequent discussion with the members, we have decided to perform a very special ‘Jane Austen’ evening. This will include a performance of this amusing parody which promises to be fun to rehearse and perform.
Synopsis:
The Bennet sisters are shopping their father into penury. He needs to marry them off (preferably without an expensive wedding). There’s Mr Bingley who’s keen on Jane, Mr Collins who is keen on anyone who’ll have him (which seems to limit the field), Captain Wickham, a military cad, and Mr Darcy who seems to be intent on making trouble or making whoopee (possibly at the same time).

Mr Bennet (father to the Bennet girls – middle class in ‘trade’)
Mrs Bennet (mother to the Bennet girls)
Miss Elizabeth Bennet (daughter – main role)
Miss Jane Bennet (daughter)
Miss Lydia Bennet (daughter)
Miss Mary Bennet (daughter)
Miss Kitty Bennet (daughter)
Mr Charles Bingley (posh – suitor to Jane)
Miss Louisa Bingley (snobby sister to Charles)
Miss Caroline Bingley (snobby sister to Charles)
Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy (posh, arrogant, main role)
The Reverend William Collins (rather an odd bod, lovely character role)
Constance, Maid to the Bennets (a country woman)
Lady Catherine de Bourgh (posh, condescending)
Captain George Wickham (a military cad)
In addition, we shall require a compère to introduce the evening – no lines to learn!
